What is a LAN Party?

A Nerd Otaku LAN Party is an event where gamers come together to connect their computers or gaming consoles via a local area network (LAN) and participate in multiplayer gaming sessions. These are BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) events and which are open to all devices, including consoles, handheld devices, mobile phones, etc. Each LAN event has a particular theme centered around a chosen game, and these themes alternate throughout the year, adding an extra layer of excitement and variety to the gaming experience. Moreover, the LAN party internet, sponsored by Liquid Intelligent Technologies, boasts high-speed fiber connectivity with low latency, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted gameplay for all participants. These gatherings offer a unique opportunity for gamers to connect, compete, and celebrate their shared passion for gaming and nerd culture.

Our LAN Party is a bring your own device event. It will be held at Mosi-oa-Tunya Shopping & Recreation on June 1st, from 08:30 through 19:45. There are limited spots so please reserve and pay for your ticket ASAP to ensure you are able to attend. Tickets are only reserved once payment has been received by Nerd Otaku, and only ticket holders will be allowed entry and a spot. Please note this is a casual event, even though we do have an organised competition, it is still a casual competition with free entry. We hope everyone will have fun, share their favourite games, make new friends, and experience the communal activity of a LAN PARTY!

Why Video Game Adaptations are Hollywood’s Next Cash Cow

Why Video Game Adaptations are Hollywood’s Next Cash Cow

The intersection between “gamers” and film and TV enthusiasts is as close to a circle as the most competent draftsman could conjure. It is strange, then, that Hollywood producers and executives have struggled to competently capitalize on this ready made market. For decades, the prevailing and somewhat successful strategy was to commission game studios and developers to create a tie-in video game to release day and date, with its live action counterpart. The idea being that the hype surrounding the release of the film, usually on opening weekends, would propel the licensed video game to similar sales numbers and maybe even critical acclaim.
